Description

This image captures a disturbed spiral galaxy 275 million light years away in the constellation of Aquila at a declination of -2 degrees. The magnitude 14 spiral galaxy spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a large diameter of 130,000 light years.

A strong arm, blue with star clusters, extends up from the yellow core. The rest of the disk appears very chaotic, with a large void space below the core. I am surprised that Dr. Arp did not include this galaxy in his Peculiar Galaxy Collection.

The small yellow galaxy to the left is NGC 6929. This galaxy is about the same distance away as NGC 6926, so they could be disturbing each other. But it seems to me that something else, perhaps a small unseen companion, is likely be causing the severe disturbance in NGC 6926.
